Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
A procedure in which a long, thin instrument called a resectoscope is passed through the urethra into the bladder and used to cut away prostateA donut-shaped gland the size and shape of a walnut that surrounds the upper portion of the male urethra. Its main function is to produce part of the fluid that makes up semen. tissue and seal blood vessels with an electric current. Also called a transurethral resection of the prostate.
